## What brake service options are there?

Brake work usually falls into four levels, and most cars need only one or two of them on a given visit. We price brakes per axle because the front and rear rarely wear at the same rate. Measuring the pads and rotors tells us which level fits your car, and the photos let you see it too.

## Should you replace pads only or pads and rotors?

Replace pads only when the rotors still measure above the minimum thickness and have a smooth, even surface. Replace rotors too when they are below spec, deeply grooved, or causing a shake when you brake. We measure every rotor and write the reading on your estimate so the decision is based on numbers.

Some shops replace rotors every time because it is simpler. We do not, because rotors that measure good do not need to be thrown away. If a rotor is borderline, we say so and let you decide, with the photo in front of you.

## What are the signs your brakes need service?

The most common signs are a high squeal, a grinding sound, a shake in the pedal or steering wheel when you stop, a soft or low pedal, and the car pulling to one side under braking. A brake warning light also deserves a look. Grinding and a soft pedal are the two that should not wait.

## Do trucks and towing vehicles need a different brake package?

Trucks, vans, and vehicles that tow wear brakes faster and build more heat, so the inspection looks harder at rotor condition, pad material, and fluid.
