Lexus RX Strut Wear, Brakes and Tire Service

Depending on year and trim, some RX models offer adaptive dampers, and some earlier models offered an air suspension. These systems cost more to repair than conventional struts and can show dash warnings when a component fails.

• Strut seepage: an oily film on the strut body
• Tire age: low-mileage RX models can have old tires with plenty of tread
• Brake rotors: a pulsing pedal or grooved surfaces
• Water pump and coolant: seepage or a sweet smell after driving, a known item on some V6 generations
• Adaptive suspension warnings: on equipped trims
• Hybrid system: 12-volt test and caliper slide check, with high-voltage questions sent to a specialist
• Records: oil changes at the right viscosity and any timing belt work on early models
